Multi-Touch Attribution Explained
Multi-touch attribution tries to represent journeys where more than one interaction matters. Instead of awarding 100% of a sale to one click, it shares credit across eligible touchpoints using a defined rule or model.
Advantages
- More nuanced view of long journeys
- Can expose assisting channels
- Useful for cross-channel planning
Limitations
More complex does not automatically mean more causal. Multi-touch models still depend on observable data, identity resolution and assumptions about how credit should be split.
Where software fits
Attribution software helps collect the underlying events, connect touchpoints and apply these models consistently across channels. If native platform reports are materially affecting budget decisions and routinely conflict with backend revenue, a dedicated measurement layer may be worth evaluating.
