Cross-Channel Attribution Explained
A customer can see a Meta ad, click a Google search ad, read an email and later buy direct. Cross-channel attribution is the attempt to represent that journey in one measurement framework.
The duplication problem
Each platform may claim the same conversion under its own rules. An independent attribution layer can provide a common model, but it still cannot observe every offline influence or hidden signal.
Where software fits
Attribution software helps collect the underlying events, connect touchpoints and apply these models consistently across channels. If native platform reports are materially affecting budget decisions and routinely conflict with backend revenue, a dedicated measurement layer may be worth evaluating.
